Early Life in Kati and Burkina Faso

Born and raised in Mali, Oumar’s childhood in Kati and Burkina Faso shaped his deep understanding of community struggles, especially the challenges faced by rural families. Experiencing firsthand the barriers of limited education and economic hardship, these formative years ignited a lasting desire to create meaningful change.

Bachelor's Degree and a Father's Sacrifice

Driven by a profound vision for education and growth, Oumar faced significant personal sacrifice early on. His father had to sell their precious farmland—the family’s main asset—to afford just a single semester of education in the United States. Fueled by determination and hope, Oumar pursued and secured scholarships, ultimately graduating with honors. His achievement was more than personal—it was proof that sacrifice, resilience, and education can overcome adversity.

Master's Degree & Personal Commitment

Despite achieving his bachelor’s degree, Oumar continued to recognize the immense value of education. Funding his master’s degree independently, he understood deeply how education enabled him to provide and care for his family back home. But even with personal success, witnessing the continued suffering in his community weighed heavily on him.

Seeds of Kati – Land of Hope

With his heart still rooted deeply in Kati, Oumar couldn’t bear to see his community suffer from hunger, knowing personally that “an empty belly cannot study.” With compassion and courage, he invested his entire life savings of approximately $27,000, reclaiming his father’s farmland. This act was not just about regaining land; it symbolized a commitment to return prosperity and hope to the community through sustainable agriculture, education, and empowerment.

Growing Impact

Today, Seeds of Kati stands as a living testament to Oumar’s vision and sacrifice. Thanks to his work, the initiative has already helped at least 250 people in his community, providing them with food security, education, and economic opportunities. Through sustainable agriculture programs, many women have gained financial independence, enabling them to support their families and even send their children to school. Seeds of Kati continues to grow, embodying hope and resilience, and fostering a brighter, sustainable future for the entire community.
